Alesis MultiMix FireWire 8 vs PreSonus Firebox

Post by verbatim » Thu Dec 08, 2005 6:51 pm

sup peeps!

my question is will the alesis suffice as a combined soundcard and mixer? or is it worth shelling out for the firebox as well? or just the firebox if anyone has had any issues with the alesis?

BTW im on a mac could anyone shed any light on latency on either of these two options?

cheers guys and muchos ableton goodness!

i'm fairly sure you only have one stereo out track with the multimix, which kind of sucks if you want to preview tracks etc... you could maybe use asio4all (on PC) or IAC (on Mac) and combine the soundcard built into your laptop with it though which would solve that problem.

Presonus is a better company than Alesis, period. They really care about audio.

But, to confuse you even more, I'd snap up this deal before it vanishes:

The actual selling price is $468. The FW card alone is $399.

The new Alesis Firewire (at least the 12-channel one) do all individual track outs over the fw connection. (i.e it's not just a stereo out.)
