BEATPORT..not secure
I was checking out Beatport and noticed my secure lock symbol was unlocked.
I also heard a rumour that credit cards were hacked from here as they store online cards..
This is crazy if true.

i've had no problems with my card.... ....yet.
but the customer service and support is shite. i have downloaded probably 300 tracks off beatport. some of the tracks have been incomplete. the end missing or only half of it. some have had glitches or bits missing. when i've asked the question or asked them to look into it. you get an automated reply. after that nothing. this has happened three or four times. plus the repeat e-mails that have been sent by me to follow up.
if something happened during the download thats fine - reset the download. if its a glitch in the source file - give me a credit note. if the problems been corrected - notify me. if i'm talking out of my arse - tell me to fuck off! just do something!
but its the best of an average bunch. what you gonna do. fire up soulseek again? make the tracks i want avaliable in good quality and i will buy them. simple. dont and i'll download them for free. sometimes you feel that these internet music sites [itunes at the top of the list] are doing you a favour by taking your money. wankers
sorry went off on one there.
er
i'm sure your card number will be safe.

SSL HTTPS (little lock icon) really isn't that important, it's just a customer
confidence thing.
Encryption of sockets only really stops man-in-the-middle style attacks
where someone sniffs your packets and sees what data you're sending.
Unless you are on a network with untrusted people, are with a dodgy ISP,
or go thru a proxy server then this really isn't a very big threat at all.
It's much more likely someone would hack their database server and steal
everyones credit card rather then spending ages setting up sniffers just to
get a few here or there.
While this in itself isn't very likely at all. It's all possible, but database
servers are mostly kept in a semi-offline kinda situation which means it
takes a few levels of systems to hack to get any data.

I have found that most of the tracks i get from there have either been highly compressed or have distortion in them. when i emailed them they gave me a refund and said that is how they received the tracks from the labels. the track in question was I kill love - terry grant. so i downloaded from bedrock site and it was totally different no distortion no compression. i think they batch process most of there stuff and to me most of it sounds distorted. maybe its a mac p.c. thing who knows???
I have not bought from there in about 3 months now as i was un impressed with the quality of the tracks. any alternatives. I tried edm (or what ever its called) but other sites interfaces are too complex and you can easily preview tracks.

That sounds about right, considering they are partners with Native Instruments. I think it is funny (not good funny) that Native integrated a "beatport store" into the traktor 3 browser. WTF?nuperspective wrote:but the customer service and support is shite.........
I buy from beatport a lot also, and have only had one problem with a download, but I was able to log back into your account and re-download the songs. I emailed support about it and actually recieved an intelligent response from a real human!
That was before Native I think.
