Another beta of upcoming bug fix update! Live 5.0.2b5!

Post by Alex » Fri Sep 09, 2005 6:39 pm

Hi folks,

we just uploaded a beta version of the upcoming bug fix update Live 5.0.2.
This Beta is free for every Live 5 user.

Use the following links to download the beta:

Mac: http://www.ableton.com/_common/download ... e502b5.dmg
Win: http://www.ableton.com/_common/download ... e502b5.zip

Please send all beta related feedback to beta@ableton.com.

Current version: Live 5.0.2b5
Expire date: 2005-09-19

This versions has also some limitations:
- No manual is included
- No content is included

This version has enabled our bug reporter.
You will notice it when restarting Live after experiencing a crash.
Furthermore the Windows version has additional debug code to dump
information into the log file. Therefore the Windows version is a bit
slower as the final version (something between 5% to 15%).

When starting live 5.0.2b5 for the first time it should open the Beta lesson
which also contains the change log.

Kind Regards,
Alex

Change log Live 5.0.2b4 - 5.0.2b5

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Improvement: Latency Handling
-----------------------------------------------------------------

In previous version of Live the audio latency reported from the used audio interface would be wrongly rounded in whole numbers of ms.
This is now changed so the latency reported from the audio interface is more accurate now.
These change affects two issue:

1) Overall latency compensation
Because of this change you have to determined (again) the overall latency compensation value in the audio preferences.
Check out the $Link Setting up Latency Compensation <Lesson:/3-Hardware Setup Category/2-Setting up Latency Compensation>

2) MIDI clock delay
Same is valid for the MIDI clock delay value, settable for each MIDI out port. Also this value needs to be adjusted again.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
[01] Bug: VST plug-ins: Changing parameters
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All

Under some conditions changing the value of a VST plug - while the VST plug-in windows is closed and no clips is playing in the track containing this plug-in - would not work properly.
This should fix problem with the Groove Agent plug-in.

Status: Fixed

-----------------------------------------------------------------
[02] Bug: Installing packages
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All

There would be problems when installing Ableton Content packages on with non-platform code page character or multi byte characters.
This fixes problems on some japanese systems.

Status: Fixed

Problem not solved

Post by sasoriza » Tue Sep 13, 2005 7:20 pm

As I thought the PDC suggestions solved my issues....it doesbut only on sessions that aren't processor intensive. When I load it up, sync is lost completely. I'm going to try out the beta version today and let you all know. Seems like it worked for others. Thanks again for all the help. Ableton wrote me back and could only tell me to turn on the sync button!!!! DUH!~!!! What kind of support is that!!!????

I've had that problem with my AMT-8, and discussed it a bit with Ableton during the live5 beta. With the AMT-8, sync output started dropping at around a CPU level of 60-70%, whereas I had to push it to 90+% to get clocks to drop w/ a Roland UM-1.

I noticed this. I'm glad Ableton has addressed this one. Now can we please have the option of quantizing the playback cursor (the little speaker icon) that shows up when you hold the mouse over the timeline. Oops, I guess that's a feature request.

Nice one so far guys...the Groove Agent fix is much appreciated.

I've also noticed that it is (so far) playing back warped Live 4 clips properly. I experienced some erratic behavior before with 5.0.1.

That being said, it is still crystal clear that Live 5 is a much, much slower program to load than Live 4. Logic, Reason, etc, load in a fraction of the time. Should we expect the general "hugeness" of the code to remain? Or will it perhaps become more streamlined?

Either way, keep it up guys.

Yep, I've noticed huge load times with all the Live 5 versions. My set takes about 2 mins to load.

I was actually thinking quite the opposite!!! Live 5 seems to load in around 10 seconds verses over a minute for Live 4. I'm running the Mac version.
MacBook Pro (MacOS 13.0.1) i9 Processor, 32gb RAM, 4tb SSD
(STUDIO I/O) MOTU UltraLite mk5 (w/ADA8200), (LIVE I/O) Behringer X Air XR18
Ableton Live Suite 11 (Live performances), Studio One 5 (Studio Stem Creation)

8O

Ohhhkay. Ableton, is there a drastic difference between the Mac and PC code here? Live 5 is way, way slower to load and do everything for me.

1gig Ram
7200 rpm firewire drive
Layla Laptop interface
Kontakt 2
Groove Agent
blah blah blah

Oh... Live itself loads in about 5 secs. It's my set which takes ages to load.

Though the set does have about 1000 audio clips in it ...

I'm on PC

isn't it time to release this update yet?

it's Friday guys - I know you love to release on a Friday so you can ruin your weekends by watching the forum ;)

I'm just getting bored with that vst warning window on load-up of 5.01, that's all. :)

I agree...this beta is looking pretty solid on my end.

Just slow when loading a whopper 2 or 3 gig set!
