when it comes i hope ableton goes all out. something like having a groove template and applying it to a clip gradually. make sense? like you can with the current quantize function only with a groove.
edit:
so when i press cmd-u i get the quantize dialog but with a dropdown of my saved templates.

Can't believe I still remember this thread from 2005 and how ridiculous it is that we are still bumping it. some sort of groove templates and a swing slider ala FL Studio on a per clip basis would do wonders for programming midi drums inside Ableton...
Dell Studio XPS 8100 Windows 7 64-bit, 10 GB RAM. RME Multiface, Avalon U5 & M5, Distressor, Filter Factory, UC33e, BCR-2000, FCB1010, K-Station, Hr 824 & H120 sub, EZ Bus, V-Drums, DrumKat EZ, basses, guitars, pedals... http://www.ryan-hughes.net
I think they considered this request closed because in v. 6 you could create a master clip that would control the tempo, at least in the arrange page anyways.
For my purposes, it works pretty good. Delays get a little f'd up, but it was a good workaround at the time. Now that there is .rx2 support in 7, it's a pretty common sense thing.
I haven't bought v. 7 yet. I'm thinking about going over to using the new version of Reason, with their groove mixer (regroove). F'in cool. I'll still probably rewire it into Live, but I only need Live version 4 for what I would intend to use it for...
So, there's a few dollars Ableton isn't making off of me (yet). I might get back on board with v. 8 if they can compete in terms of groove with the propellerheads, but for now, it doesn't look good.

Groove quantize features are one of Live's biggest let downs. There's the new slice to midi feature (which is v cool) but there still isn't (from what I can see thus far) any way of extracting the groove from the midi file you generate. I know there are workarounds... but who needs workarounds for such a fundamental feature? Live is getting better and better with each new version and it;s only a matter of time before my pro producer mates move to it 100% (these days the oldies refuse to master in Live because of the "sound" but are slowly converting with a bit of persuasion from me !) Please let's get groove quantize as a new feature to shut up my mates using cubase etc. It's one of the big cribs... along with mastering capabilities (FYI I don't buy into this way of thinking but it's used in arguments every time - Live can master as well as the user IMO.. and version 7 fixes the sound quality for me). Cheers!
