Send MIDI transport info to External Hardware *Semi Solved*

Post by panten » Sun May 05, 2024 10:32 am

I've been looking for answers to this everywhere and can't find any info.

What I'm trying to do is to be able to create midi clips in Ableton Live that can be used to send synced Transport info to the Octatrack MKII.
Is this even possible?

What I've already set up is for the Octatrack to receive Transport and Clock info so it starts playback when you start playback in Live. That's fine.
What I'd like to do is to be able to start and stop playback with more control from Ableton Live.

Just to follow up on this in case any future person finds this post: I found a semi-solution to this.

So I couldn't figure out how to use MIDI clips to send the transport info to the Octatrack, BUT
I did discover the Resync External hardware button (I had to activate it in Preferences/Link,Tempo&MIDI) Is this button new?

Anyway, it solved the main issue I had with using the Octatrack synced to Ableton's Master clock and transport control. If ever I accidentally pressed stop on the Octatrack I would have to restart my Ableton set to get the two in sync again (obviously not good for a hybrid dj set)
Hitting resync external hardware syncs it again on the next bar.
