Push 3 pads latency response in Ableton Live.
Push 3 pads latency response in Ableton Live.
Hello,
I have the controller version of the Push 3 and there is surprising latency between pressing the pads and the sound being played in Ableton Live.
It's not a matter of sensitivity, the pads do trigger properly, but with a delay....
Not only it is very noticible and annoying, but it actually make the pads unusable.
Did anyone else experienced this as well? Is it a know issue?
If anyone knows a way to fix this, it would be amazing!
Thank you.

What your audio interface, and are you using the latest drivers for it? What’s your latency set to in Live’s audio preferences?

Push 3 is connected directly to my computer through its USB-C cable.
I have the latest ASIO4ALL driver.
In latency settings it say there is a 21.3 second general latency.

Re: Push 3 pads latency response in Ableton Live.
21 milliseconds, sorry.
Also, i do not have an audio interface. Would it reduce the latency between Push and Ableton? Or it wouldn't change anything because Push is connected straight to the computer anyway?

Re: Push 3 pads latency response in Ableton Live.
Yes, a proper audio interface will almost certainly help you here. Push has nothing to do with it in this case, it's just a controller and has nothing to do with how audio is processed.
What you're experiencing is likely entirely normal if you're using a computer without proper drivers for the built in audio interface. Did you check to see if there are any drivers for it, instead of just relying on asio4all? That's not always the best solution, so I would look into that next.

Did you try using Push's audio interface?

Re: Push 3 pads latency response in Ableton Live.
I put the Push 3 back into its box out of frustration and sadness.
I think it's not ok to expect from your customers to go on the internet and spend hours doing their own researches on how to deal with latency and tinkering the settings until the delay starts to feel somehow acceptable...
I will try to calm down and try looking into sound drivers solutions. Maybe buy an audio interface.
Thank you for taking the time to answer me and try to help me, i appreciate it.

Yes I did, but i only used stock settings, i didn't tweak anything inside Push 3's audio interface menu yet. I'll give it a try, see if it can make the delay imperceptible or not.
I can let you know how it went if you're interested.

Sure let us know!
Try using a buffer of 128 or 256 samples.

I have the same problem and I'm using a MacBook Pro M3 Max and Pushs Audio Interface (256 Samples Buffer, but I've tried other settings) and Live 11.3.13. It's impossible to play along a track with this delay. What can I do?
Re: Push 3 pads latency response in Ableton Live.
It's only happening when playing from Push, or from another controllers/keyboards too?

Re: Push 3 pads latency response in Ableton Live.
The best option i found is using ASIO4ALL with 256 samples buffer and 196.000 frequency. It gives me 12ms general latency.
It's harder for my computer to deal with, now i get some short freezes when i load an instrument on a MIDI track, an effect or whatever, and there is still a little bit of delay, but i can barely notice it now. That's good enought i guess.

Re: Push 3 pads latency response in Ableton Live.
You probably mean 192Khz, but in any case it's extreme and and just a huge waste of CPU. You're gonna hit the limit pretty quick, and there's no audible benefits running at this sample rate. I don't think it's gonna be a "good" solution for very long.
Maybe you mean 96Khz, in which case it should alreadt be better in term of CPU, but still not useful and quite a serious CPU hit.
Most people use 44.1Khz, which is a standard in music production; 48Khz is also very common and is not a problem CPU-wise.
