Emphasize Movement in Audio

Post by Cencyte » Fri Dec 30, 2022 2:16 am

Hi

I have a riser sample that is mostly white noise, with a subtle modulation. I am wondering if there are any techniques to emphasize the modulation of the sample that is already present in the audio and deemphasize the white noise. In other words, I'm looking for a tool that increases the prominence of change / movement in a sample, and reduces static, unchanging portions, but spectrally, not just the levels.

Here is the riser sound in question:

Thanks

What I hear in that sample is white noise plus an LFO-modulated resonant tone. If you were to play around with a low pass filter, you might find a cutoff frequency that kills a lot of the noise/sizzle/hiss and leaves the fundamental modulated tone.

Once you apply the filter you might find using Envelope Modulation might raise and lower the cutoff frequency keyed to the “tone” part of the sound and allow you to cut more of the noise portion.
