Thanks atmofunk!
The 770's are 250 ohm cans, while the 770M's are 80 ohm...from what I undersatnd this allows them to need less power to be loud. I'm very interested to hear how isolating they are...35 db attentuation would be great! And reading over and over how incredible they are for electronic music, and that people really like they way their mixes turn out when using them...it's exciting enough to drop $220 on them I think.
I'll be sure to post a review when/if I get them

This thread is very interesting. One thing that strikes me when looking for high end 'phones is that a lot of them are hard to drive (high impedence 250-300 ohms). Do the people with HD600/650s and DT770Pro (the 250ohm version) use headphone amps I wonder?
I have my eye on some DT770Ms but have noticed that the price difference between them and the very similar DT770Pros is large (£80 (pros) vs. £135 (Ms) ) and it is possible to get the Pros in an 80 ohm version which might make all the difference.
Anyone with any input?

I agree with you, cyclyk.cyclyk wrote:You cannot imagine what you can ear with it, space location, frequencies, I assure you, if you found one, you'll be in love. It's absolutly amazing really, you can't even imagine what it sounds like in fact, it's like having a 5.1 speaker set on the head.... without the heavyness....
I've been using two Ultrasone headphones for quite a long time, an older HFI-2000 for studio and the HFi-500 DJ1 for djing.
On both, the sound is more "open" than other headphones, quite linear and with good highs.
They are quite sturdy as well, especially the HFI-500 which has the new design.
I hate headphones. I find them restrictive and completely inaccurate in reproducing the interacting dynamics of stereo sound.
Warp-markering and knowing your material means you don't even need headphones any more. However, I have to use an in-ear monitoring for a percussion click, which I really hate. I do wish there was a better way!

funnily enough i prefer without for playing out with Live. my neighbours when i'm at home totally don't agree hence my interest in a decent set.hambone1 wrote:I hate headphones. I find them restrictive and completely inaccurate in reproducing the interacting dynamics of stereo sound.

anyone any input on my question above? i have a hunch that the dt770pro-80ohms is what i want.
From what I understand, the main difference between the 770Pro 80-ohm and the 770M is the 770M's have much more isolation, and a more even frequency response (milder lows/highs, more mids).robin wrote: I have my eye on some DT770Ms but have noticed that the price difference between them and the very similar DT770Pros is large (£80 (pros) vs. £135 (Ms) ) and it is possible to get the Pros in an 80 ohm version which might make all the difference.
For whatever its worth, I've read lots of reviews citing the 250-ohm being hard to drive without an amp, and I've read no such reviews of the 770M's. The guy at Guitar Center told me the 80-ohms would be much easier to drive than the 250-ohm.

Been using the Sennheiser HD25 SP's for three years DJing.
Modified them by turning the cups upside down and tank taping the wire over the headband so that the wire only exits from one side instead of both sides.
Cost £60 three years ago from Richer Sounds (they made a mistake on their website and had to honour the price ). Replaced the main cable last year, cost £12.

Exactly the same for me on all counts. (That one side cable mod is essential).Soulman wrote:Been using the Sennheiser HD25 SP's for three years DJing.

I also have an older pair of SPs that are still going strong after 10+ years (need new pads now though).
