Options.txt file - anyone been "modding"?

Post by mcconaghy » Sat May 21, 2005 2:31 am

Bobby henke dropped this little gem in the Richie Hawtin thread:
Robert Henke wrote:Richie Hawtins "secret" Live feature is in since Live 4 for everyone:

create a file "Options.txt" in Library/Preferences/Ableton/Live4

write the line:

-MIDINoteFeedback

in it. If a session clip has been MIDI learned it will put out a note event when triggered, and a note event with velocity 1 per loop count and the note off on stop.

Thats all.

Robert
I already know the script to activate 64 ReWire busses within Live, but are there any more tricks for modding this proggie? Anyone care to share what can be done with the Options.txt file?

don't know about any tricks but I'd love to see a setting that delays all midi data to external gear by a given amount

I tried to turn off rewire master and slave functions, but I didn't notice any difference. I was trying to use Cubase and Live independently at the same time.
It didn't matter which app was started up first, they rewired like nothing had happened.

Here's the list of symbols defined in the Live 4.1.2 binary nearby "MIDINoteFeedback". I suspect that this is the list of recognized debug symbols, but I'm not sure how to tweak them all, namely those which require numerical input.

Could anybody explain this to me in more details?
Richie Hawtins "secret" Live feature is in since Live 4 for everyone:

create a file "Options.txt" in Library/Preferences/Ableton/Live4

write the line:

-MIDINoteFeedback

in it. If a session clip has been MIDI learned it will put out a note event when triggered, and a note event with velocity 1 per loop count and the note off on stop.

Thats all.

Robert
I tried it. Have wirtten the options.txt file and assigned a midi-note to the session-clip. But i can't get any midi-notes out of live?
Does this also works with Live?

Thanks!

Urs, did you assign a midi output device in the midi prefs for "Remote (Fernsteuerung). Also, write something like -dfsjfkes in that text file. If you
open live you should get a message box saying "unknown option -dfsjfkes" or something like this. If you do not get this message, the Options.txt is at the wrong place.

Hope that helps, Robert

Thanks Robert for your quick answer!

Well, it seems that i have put it in the wrong place...
My "Options.txt" file now looks like this:

-MIDINoteFeedback
-dfsdfsddfsd

and i've put it into

(my username)/Library/Preferences/Ableton/Live 4.1.4

but no message at the startup of Live4. So it doesn't seem to recoginize the file.
Where else should i place the file? Or is it perhaps in a wrong format? I've just written it in TextEdit.

Thanks for your help.

solved!

it was a text format problem... when written in bbedit it worked out.

so, i'm off to some audio-video sequencing! 8)
