IMO, I doubt it--they're kept busy with PC and Mac so to do Linux too would be more workload. Andrew

There's quite a bit of software getting ported from Linux to macOSX and vice versa, so it's not impossible.

I've been using a live Linux audio distro called 'Apodio' recently, http://www.apo33.org/apodio/wakka.php?w ... Principale a lot of the software is looking really good and very usable. Add to that all the excellent graphics software like Gimp2 http://www.gimp.org/screenshots/ Inkscape http://www.inkscape.org/, firefox and Thunderbird, I'm definately going to switch soon.

EnergyXT is going to be ported to Linux at some point, and then the only windows app the I'll need will be Ableton Live.

Personally, I really hope they port it. I'm really excited about some of the software I've been trying, especially the OS itself, I particularly like the fluxbox interface. http://fluxbox.sourceforge.net/screenshots-dev.php

It's also worth checking Ardour, Hydrogen and JAMin, which work together really well over Jack.

theres something called Cherry OS and another distro called Peach OS.. one of them plagarised the other, i cannot remember which, but they claim to be able to run mac apps in there.

also WINE should handle many of the Ableton windows calls, in fact theres is a program that sits on top of WINE and claims to have compatibility with over 90% of PC apps

I too would love to see live ported on linux. I would just completely switch...

If Live goes to linux, i'd switch back.

I went back to windows after having ONE (count it, one) software problem in over a year specifically for Live. And it's back to crashing periodically and annoying the fuck out of me that i actually have to use the mouse to do routine system maintenance.

I'm also back to wanting to throw my computer out the fucking window because windows is such a bitch to actually use...daemons that don't do anything but take up resources, DRM bitching at you if you do something wrong...and then there's the fact that i have yet to correctly register a copy of XP, despite the sticker on the bottom of my computer that IS a proof of purchase.

I've never really had much of a problem with XP i must admit, never really had many crashes at all, never had any real virus probs either, not that they're not around, they're just a no brainer to deal with.

The thing is, it's always running tons of other shit that i don't want or need, it has a HORRIBLE dumbed down consumer bollocks paradigm to it (so does apple). I've managed to strip mine down to it's bare bones, re-skinned it so it doesn't look like win98 or teletubby land anymore but there's still LOADS of BOLLOCKS hanging around that I can't get rid of.

Linux offers the opertunity to create a TOTALLY custom audio environment, with the features and look that I GET TO CHOOSE, if i don't want to even know there's an OS present at all, it's possible. No whistles and bells, no consumer widgets, no BOLLOCKS.

Personally, I'm watching some of these new Linux apps really closely, they're different, fresh, cheap, have evolved out of years of R&D on other platforms and IMHO are a really healthy way to be different in a imho stagnating scene where everyone seems to be using the same kit.

Thanks Sweetjesus. In fact I did some researches, more on wine, and found out one guy how tryed bbut couldn't succeed, then installed win4lin, and made live work for him. Don't know about performances though.

I'm completely new to linux, and same as Martyn, I am a "happy" XP user BUT I'm tired of not mastering the ressources of a machine I've paid for, and I don't care about half the services I HAVE to use no matter I want to or not.
I just download the bootable version of Agnula Demudi, which you burn on a CD and run as a bootable system, no hard install. I'm righting that mail from linux now, and it works fine on both my machines !

I thought Agnula was just a hard install, where do you find the bootable version? I presume you mean it'll run like knoppix yes?

I don't know about knoppix, but yes, agnula has a "non-install" version. It's on the download page, there are two iso files, one mentions "live", this is the one. Very nice to see a bit of what linux does for you. It is my first trial, but franckly, it feels so nice to see some piece of plastic I purchased without a system I didn't choose, one made by thoughtfull people for the people..... hard to express.
Try it ! it is quite harmless !

Good call! It works like a charm, can't quite get the latency down as far as i could with Apodio, although that was none too stable anyway.

With the newer versions of Knoppix, if you type 'knoppix to ram' at the boot prompt, it literally sticks the whole thing on your ram, (if you have enough) freeing up your cd drive again. it speeds things up dramatically too.

I wonder if its possible to do similar with Agnula.
