64 Bit and Time code Generator please.

Post by swihart » Fri Feb 08, 2013 6:48 am

Without going into a long explanation here. I work with film and TV every day. I need Live to generate time code in all the frame rates, 23.976, 24, 25, 29.97, 29.97 drop, 30, and 30 drop.

I also need to be able to use the 32 gigs of ram that I have in my machine so "pretty please with sugar on top", 64 bit.

Your program has created a revolution in the music business, please don't leave the film and tv scoring musicians out in the cold any longer. we all want to use this software. Using Live as a rewire instrument basically sucks and is super limited.

and if you need a little more motivation.... don't let bitwig get there first...

thanks,

js

The betas already have a 64-bit version, and the next official versions (i.e. 8.4 and 9.0) will have a 64-bit version. As for the timecode request, I wouldn't hold my breath. We've petitioned them over at the Live 9 beta forum, but no response yet from the Abes.

I feel like there must be better programs than live for whatever you're trying to do. The things that make live unique are the scene launching and looping... and lack of dual monitor support...

..and that doesn't really seem like what you would need.

Unfortunately I don't think Live will ever take the filmscoring crowd serioulsy (which is ridiculous.)

Obvioulsy Logic, Cubase, Pro Tools etc are great alternatives - and I'm guessing you use one of these already. I could understand wanting to use live because it can be very quick to work in in many regards... but without timecode it's just not possible ...

I've been experimenting with Studio One lately. I'm digging it. It has an incredibly quick work flow similar to live (linear only though, no session view...) it is 64 bit. runs with a nice light footprint and pretty awesome. Do some reading up if you haven't looked into it yet.

Here's an excellent article by a film composer who's using it:

well i can go +1 on this thread, and add that ableton should really reconsider, because live is incredibly fast to work with, and is basically a sound designer's dream (yeah, not everyone can afford a freaking kyma-x/pacarana system, and neither wwise or fmod works that good with video heh) when it comes to workflow and capability if you know what you are doing. if they were to pour some more resources into this they could pretty much take over, with some adjustments and additions.

Agreed -

(1) Support for 23.976
(2) Generate / Send / Output MIDI Time Code

I was surprised Live 9 did not address these 2 issues.
Feature requests:
(1) Support for 23.976 FPS
(2) Generate/Send/Output MIDI Time Code
(3) MIDI Note "catch"

+1 for time code. 64 bit already exists.

I'd like to point out that even "Waves Tracks" - new free recording software from Waves has these 2 features:

23.976 FPS support
MTC input
Feature requests:
(1) Support for 23.976 FPS
(2) Generate/Send/Output MIDI Time Code
(3) MIDI Note "catch"
