Emulating a basic blues/rock guitar riff
Okay, on a guitar it goes like this: On the B string, you fret a note. On the G string, you fret a note three frets higher. You play both strings, and you push on the G string so its note rises to match what the B string is playing.
It's the second "cliche" they teach you in one brand of rock guitar instruction.
I've recently started messing around with the guitar and Amp presets in Live Suite, and have been playing Eddie Van Halen-esque shredding to my heart's content. It sounds 95% convincing.
But what about the one-string-stretches-but-the-other-doesn't maneuver?
So far, the simplest way I can see to emulate this is to split the keyboard into two regions and feed these into Ableton on two different MIDI channels. Each channel feeds into a guitar instrument, and I map a mod wheel to a pitch shift on one of the instruments. Then both instruments' outputs go into a single Amp.
Anybody have a simpler way to do it? (Other than simply play a guitar.)

Howdy !
Can´t really help you, sorry. But your project sounds interesting. Did you you use tension with amp together to create your sound ? Or how do you start ?

Yeah, I haven't strayed far from the factory presets of the Tension guitar patches and Amp. You can get pretty close to a madly shredding sound with those, and I've been experimenting with mapping mod wheels to various Tension controls.

You've already found the "best" way. MIDI pitch bend is only per-channel, not per note, so you have to send the notes on separate channels.

Thanks. I fear you may be right, as far as an Ableton solution goes.h_double wrote:You've already found the "best" way. MIDI pitch bend is only per-channel, not per note, so you have to send the notes on separate channels.
Now, in my decade-old copy of Digital Performer, I think I could split off the top note and send it to one MIDI bus, send the rest of the notes to another MIDI bus, and apply the pitch bend only to the second bus, send both MIDI buses to copies of the same instrument, and then merge the instruments' output. Still kinda kludge-y, I know, but at least it wouldn't require two different keyboard regions as input.

If you're on windows check out Temper as it has scale constraint and per note automation
