How is Ableton on Windows 7 now??
Is it time to move on from XP to Windows7 Apparently xp only supports 2gb ram and my machine has 4gb so its being wasted.. True?
Re: How is Ableton on Windows 7 now??
Semi true. I think that the 2 gb limit is for xp 32 bit home version users or summat... the 32 bit system prevents you from adressing over 4gb and reserves the fourth gb for graphics card addresses. but I dunno and I am probably out on the detail. More importantly windows 7 (64bit) is good for me and Live works fine on it.

Live is a 32-bit program, though, so even if you run it under Windows 7 64-bit, the program is still limited in how much memory it can access the same as any other 32-bit program. That being said, Win 7 64-bit is a solid OS and Live runs fine under it.
Re: How is Ableton on Windows 7 now??
Live on a 32bit windows OS can only use upo 2GB RAM. Some time in the distant pat I did try enabling the 3GB switch on XP, but as the machine wouldnt even boot - gave up.
Live on 64 bit Windows 7 can in theory use upto 4GB ram, in practice it seems to max out at around 3.6GB due to the some of the virtual memory space being needs by the OS etc. So, yes it is worth getting a 64 bit OS now even though live is still only 32 bit.
A caveat - if you only have 4GB total in the machine, then there may not be 3.6GB available to live anyway (a bit over 3GB instead), so for dual module memory system (most laptops and minimal desktops), you may want to consider 8GB while for a 3 module system (decent desktops) then 6GB is good.

Nothing to see here - move along!

win7 64 good here
Re: How is Ableton on Windows 7 now??
I run both Live8 and Cubase 6 on Windows 7 and it has been highly stable for me. As long as you are running a decent quality pc built out of good components and not using crap drivers then you will be totally fine.
High Quality Sound Effects and Loop Libraries.

I Agree with other Win7 users and suggest to install Win7 64 Bit. But while browsing with opera I use 1,36 GB Ram, so appr. 2,6 are left for other applications.
An upgrade to 8 GB could be helpful for me, but I can_'t find SO-RAM DDR 2 2x 4 GB anywhere, probably as it is not possible to do so.
But to get 4 GB RAM is affordable and finally a no brainer...

Occasionally (but too often) it will forget about my audio interface... not specifically an Ableton problem but annoying.

I'm running Live 8.2 on Win 7 64 bit (4Gb RAM) and it works very well. I no longer get the out of memory error that I used to get sometimes when running on XP 32 bit.
