nop.
I hear defraging could cause a damage under 10.3.
If it was 10.2, it will do some good.

I do the Zero writing whenever I format the HDD.
Yeah, 10.3.6 was sweet.
But since my system works perfect under 10.3.5,
guess I won't update it till 10.4.x.

Never jump to point 0 software&OS.
ex)10.4.0

and PLZ don't go over 10.3.6.
I already had a hard time with 10.3.7
and 10.3.9 is already on its way.

We'll talk soon.
Keep in touch with us whever you do something.
good luck

i've used Tech Tool Pro to defrag.
it can be handy if your disk is defragmented, and combined with Disk Warrior's directory rebuilding, it can be very useful.

check out the setting up OSX thread at the OSXAudio.com forums

cool...

I always leave at least 50% of the system partition free,no really probs with my system now,,,but as I'm using many heavy vst with live I wonder if defrag will optimize the performance,,let's see what up with 10.3.9

and let's us hope that tiger don't mess things around with our systems

Hi there,
a friend of mine (absolut computer noobie) has osx 10.3.5 and live 4.04. I installed his system and he never has any problems. we are using the same plugins.

I am using 10.3.8 and live 4.1.4 and my live is crashing frequently. i.e. when opening a new song (this has almost become a running joke in concerts...) when using reaktor 4 and absynth 3 or when deleting scenes etc...

cheers

if you can, I would sugget replacing the RAM with extras.
If you don't own them, it would be a nice idea if you trade it with your friend's.

My first powerbook had the same problem.
Constant Random Crashes.

When you make the change, make sure the PB has been all unplugged including the AC adapter for atleast 30mis.
When changing, make sure you don't have any electricity on you.
Touch some metal objects before you touch anything inside including the RAM,
so you can let the inner-electricity get away from you.

At the end of the road, it's going to be sweet.
I can promiss you that.

Let us hear how it goes.
Good luck !

cheers

you're very welcome.

BTW the random crashes happened to me with my brand new powerbook, too.
I had to sent it back to Apple for a replacement.
The second one didn't mount the CD/DVD.
The third one is the one I'm using right now.

2GB is very nice.
You can record more than a hour on live4,
and play other samples and plugin at the same time.
Even if I did that, I stll have around 700MB-1GB left which is very useful
for on stage performance where you don't wan't to think about limitations.

Wishing you luck.
