Assign 'permanent' controls on MIDI controller?
Assign 'permanent' controls on MIDI controller?
How would I go about setting 'permanent' or 'universal' MIDI assignemnts to my midi controller. Basically, I want the nobs on my controls to always adjust the same things without re-setting them again and again. Do I literally have to start new project, assign all the controls, then save, and always load this save when i start a new project - or is there another way to do it.
Also, how would i set it so that a single nob adjusts the same variable on each track...For instance, I select a track, and one of the nobs adjusts panning on that track, but when i select a different track, the same nob adjusts the panning for the selected track instead.

Re: Assign 'permanent' controls on MIDI controller?
the only thing i know for question 2 is that you can use a custom user remote script and assign your midi knobs to predefined controls, but in that user scripts the pan knobs are NOT included. you'll find a template of this script in your ableton folder %\Resources\MIDI Remote Scripts\_Tools.
Re: Assign 'permanent' controls on MIDI controller?
The script route is the way to go. What midi controller are you using? It may already be supported by Ableton, check in the midi tab of the preferences menu. If your controller is already supported it will appear under control surfaces.

if there is a script for an alpha track, that might be worth looking at
there is pan in mackie control, and track shift, but not a 'selected track' function afaik
