Ulrich Schnauss / Berlin
Ulrich Schnauss / Berlin
I really like his stuff and he's playing tomorrow night (3rd June) at Bang Bang Club, Berlin, if any forumites are interested...
A really nice video of him in action (+ ableton live screenshots ) here: http://www.kcrw.com/media-player/mediaP ... h_schnauss

nice clip - a shame about the crash (?) though. . on live radio. ouch.

That looks like a dell laptop, strange because it works! I wish I had got one of those ones and not the studio one.swishniak wrote:nice clip - a shame about the crash (?) though. . on live radio. ouch.

Looks like a Mac to me, looks like a Mac mouse too, you can see it clearly about15 mins in.
It didn't look like a full on crash, more like a firewire/usb problem that just needed re-plugging.
Sounds nice though, thanks for posting.

I just saw the paint job on the back and thought dell, I unfortunately dont use a mac so probably am not the best 'spotter'.Martyn wrote:Looks like a Mac to me, looks like a Mac mouse too, you can see it clearly about15 mins in.

Great vid though liked the controller boxes he was using not seen those before. I am totally skint at the moment so keeping up on the new gear just get's depressing.

the controllers look like they are faderfoxes to me. http://faderfox.de/andy c wrote:I just saw the paint job on the back and thought dell, I unfortunately dont use a mac so probably am not the best 'spotter'.Martyn wrote:Looks like a Mac to me, looks like a Mac mouse too, you can see it clearly about15 mins in.

Nice sounds, yes thanks. Seems like a cool radio show.Martyn wrote:Looks like a Mac to me, looks like a Mac mouse too, you can see it clearly about15 mins in.

I got a little irritated watching this, because he had mouse, keyboard, plus controllers and all sources running into a mixer, but when he ran into whatever snag he stopped the show.
Seemed like he could've faded the laptop gently (it was just playing one drum loop at the time) kept up the nice ambient sounds on the keys while sorting the issue, then fade it back in.
I think the one knobby controller wasn't playing nice and needed to be re-plugged.
UTENZIL a tool... of the muse.

The guy uses more layers than just about any other shoegaze-related producer I've heard. It's definitely beautiful, but I dunno if I would call it simple3dot... wrote:I like Ulrich Schnauss music...

yeah...loads of layers...but not a variety of 'sounds'/instruments...Nick the Zombie wrote:The guy uses more layers than just about any other shoegaze-related producer I've heard. It's definitely beautiful, but I dunno if I would call it simple3dot... wrote:I like Ulrich Schnauss music...

Yeah I think minimal is a good word for it, I see what you're saying now.3dot... wrote:yeah...loads of layers...but not a variety of 'sounds'/instruments...Nick the Zombie wrote:The guy uses more layers than just about any other shoegaze-related producer I've heard. His music focuses more on a few big sounds that evolve slowly, really great stuff. "Far Away Trains Passing By" is probably my favorite of his material; wasn't really feeling his latest album tbh.
Re: Ulrich Schnauss / Berlin
hadn't heard his latest...
but this dude has had his own 'tone' right from the start..
respect.

Re: Ulrich Schnauss / Berlin
I have only heard 'A Strangely Isolated Place', but I would not call this music minimal. That does this music a disservice.
This release has quite a bit going on in it: lots of layers, progressions that alter, many timbres & tones, some unexpected twists & turns, subtle effects, & very strong song-writing/composition with wonderful pop & classical sensibilities.
