renaming vst's in osx?

Post by Yhtomit » Mon Mar 30, 2009 5:30 pm

On the pc, I was able to rename the VST plugins, by simply renaming the DLL file in the Explorer. But if I try this in Leopard, Live displays the original name in the plugin browser.. Is this an OSX thing? Or is there something I have overlooked? ty

Why would you want to do this?

(I don't get PC users sometimes )

Why would we want to do this? Here's a good reason. The developer accidentally changes the name to omit a space between versions, and the project won't load unless you rename the VST correctly, and it's a weekend and you can't wait for the developer to fix the problem and reissue a new installer. I don't get Mac zealots sometimes... (NB: I'm both a Mac and PC user)

I don't get people who infer from a reply that someone is 'upset' :P

Fact is, I legitimately hit up against this issue today. The snippy little (Mac zealot) punk needed putting in his place! Haha...

Btw - solved the problem through a bit of package hackely-doodlie :) Unfortunately, a little unclear as to what specific step resolved the issue, since I was moving too fast and tried too many at once!
