Experimental Guitar music sugestions please..

Post by Homebelly » Fri Feb 27, 2009 10:57 pm

There was a thread a while back that had a couple of links in it to electronic/IDM type guitar recordings.
I can't find it now, i think it was on a totally unrelated subject and the link where buried deep in side.
Any ways..
I'm kinda bored at the moment and looking for some new stuff to inspire me..
Right now i'm listening to Elijah B Torn..
David Torn..
Marc Rebot..
Some Chris Willits..
Cougar/Hanz Blix.
Jeff Beck..

I'm looking for examples of bent sounds and computer/electronic inspired productions...

Got a couple of good ones for you. Great laptop based performers:

Christian Fennesz
http://www.fennesz.com/
His latest - Black Sea - is incredible.

Christopher Willits
http://www.christopherwillits.com/
Excellent stuff. He's done a lot of great tutorials on XLR8R.com

Of course, there's always Fripp..... Not exactly laptop, but without him none of these other chaps would be noodling. :)
I came for the
But stayed for the :x

Okay..
Now this is what i'm talking about..
Very cool recommendation.

I see he has a connection to local boy Rosie Parlan...
Even though the guitar gets lost in the textualization, I still quite like
What Rosie is doing..

I have a love/hate with what Wilits does.
To my ears the guitar as midi controller aspect tends to take over..

Homebelly was kind enough to suggest that I mention my "6 strings for a winter's day" project after I PM'd him about it:

http://www.chromedecay.org/releases/cd002/

If you're in a part of the world where winter still has you in its icy grip, this may be perfect listening. I also am finding the previously mentioned "Black Sea" release by Fennesz to be excellent winter listening music.
