APC 40 FAQs, features and questions
Re: APC 40 FAQs, features and questions
Just a quick question to Aussies on the board...have you gotten your APC yet? Does anyone know when they'll land down under?
Mine's on the pre order but suppliers aren't sure when its 'getting' here...

Re: APC 40 FAQs, features and questions
im not joking! about pickup mode what is the point to use it if you have endless pots that gets updated automatically? (im i losing something here?)sacredgeometry wrote:you are joking right? secondly pickup would have to be used regardless of pots or faders so your 2nd point is a little irrelivant.IP wrote:Question for Jesse: Any chance for a "rotary" version in the future? 8 endless encoders instead of 8 faders
if no..
Request: A "rotary" version of APC40. (8 endless encoders instead of 8 faders)
a. many people prefer rotary versions against faders, from the old classic mixer days
b. even more people hate hate hate (i mean really hate) the pickup mode!
Because there is not only fader philosophy out there.Thinktanx wrote:Seems an odd one to me too. Why would I want endless encoders to control volume??sacredgeometry wrote:IP wrote:Question for Jesse: Any chance for a "rotary" version in the future? 8 endless encoders instead of 8 faders

some people work with and prefer rotaries for years now.
As or "endless" i cant find anything against them.
Great for devices with many banks.
You dont losing values by going up/down in order to find the "pickup point" as it updates automatically every time you switch to an other bank.
Or to explain even batter ... think about the APC 16 pots with simple pots against endless encoders!
back to rotaries... here are some classics models!!

Re: APC 40 FAQs, features and questions
Rotary pots would be cool, although there is very little room for the knobs on the APC40. Unfortunately the faders are the only real practical solution.
Don't forget the Urei 1620, I love playing on those and started on them 20 years ago.... my fave by far being the Rane MP2016 with the XP2016 eq/crossfader box, that is a delicious combo.

No, I understand well using pots, but endless encoders are, imo, a bit dangerous when dealing with volume. They would also mean that you would be further tethered to the screen. That is all.IP wrote:sacredgeometry wrote: Because there is not only fader philosophy out there.

Re: APC 40 FAQs, features and questions
why? endless encoders will not give "endless" volume to make it dangerous!
Personally im afraid of pickup mode because im always moving the faders some millimeters more in order to takeover fast ...
Also when i had my volumes controlled by an edirol pcr with pickup mode i used to look at the screen all the time (for a carefully pickup) ..
and after i started to control my volumes with a bcr2000 i never looked at the screen again (for that reason) !!
but any away this is about personal opinion.
the point is ...
id like to see a rotary (endless) version of APC-40 (or APC-400 ;p )

No, it's because there is no frame of reference, obviously. Of course, it's easy enough to set your max levels in map mode, I'm just saying...

Re: APC 40 FAQs, features and questions
Here is my suggestion
It could be an endless knob for setting up the volume and a vertical light bar (instead of a rounded) for displaying the volume amount (i mean the fader position )!!

I agree! Selling limited versions of the software is really annoying. Just send us a coupon with it.jonjonfunkphenomenon wrote:i so want to fork out the cash (GC CC) to get 8....wish they had a coupon for buy one get 100 off ableton full deal.

Upgrading from the software provided is much cheaper than buying 8 outright...what more do you want?tweekskratch wrote:I agree! Selling limited versions of the software is really annoying. ya that's true.
Re: APC 40 FAQs, features and questions
This unit is really great. I was amazed at how seamlessly things went in using it.
1) I was very surprised that there seems to be an automap function for VST plug-ins. I was not expecting that. Problem is--how do you know what the 8 knobs are controlling before moving the knobs. (The same issue exists with Live plug-ins.) For example, when moving knob 3, I don't want to reset the threshhold of a VST compressor plug-in, when I am actually trying to change ratio. Can anybody tell me that?
2) Groups do not work with the APC 40. It seems that you have to go without groups for the tracks to be counted properly as you Shift-scroll across the tracks.
3) It did stop working in the midst of a project last night. Of course, the project had about 60 scenes and about 40-50 tracks. Could the unit have been overwhelmed or was the APC 40 sensing that I was overwhelmed in managing all those parts?
4) I never got the light show. I want to see it.
