Thanks for posting your spec ... and good to have you aboard!
Never a problem and a pleasure to be here :)

I have just run through my usual options for optimising via musicxp.net and have found there to be little to no difference in score as posted above (36%)...

Mind you, this is not my usual audio partition (that is due for a reinstall sooner rather than later!) and this one has a lot of superfluous software installed...

When I get 'round to the reinstall I will post my results from a clean partition and also my main studio machine at home :)

Hope the info is helpful in some way.

PS. My laptop P4 processor does NOT have HT...

I finally get to participate - my old 533 would just crash when I opened this up but my new computer

registers at 55%

A 1.2g Mac mini w/ 512 mb of ram (i need more of this)

I just used the built in Sound so...i don't know if that makes a difference

My pleasure AdamJay,

I am likely just as curious as you to get as broad an overview as possible :)

Out of interest, I would be happy to help out in typing/organising the results to date into a simple excel file (or similar) for ease of sorting by category - that is of course if you haven't done this already - with a view to making the full spreadsheet publicly available should people want...

What are your thoughts on this?

No dramas if you are not keen for any reason (no justification warranted or expected), just offering a hand should one be of use.

Let me know either way either via PM or in this thread :)

Cheers for starting the ball rolling with this too - a great initiative IMHO!

1) 24%, peaking at 25-26% every few seconds
2) Laptop, Sager 5690
3) WinXP, SP2, Optimized by MusicXP and BlackViper settings
4) Pentium 4, 3.2 Ghz, Northwood, HT enabled
5) 1gb RAM DDR
6) RME Cardbus/Multiface
7) Two 7200 RPM Drives

Sager is no longer making this model, but they do make other models with two 7200 drives, which I whole-heartedly recommend for a portable DAW. However, I'm lucky if I get even 45 minutes of battery life out of this 12 lbs monster, so it's not REALLY mobile.

if you want to sift through the 30 pages and re-categorize results... be my guest :D

i wish i could give you the first 20 pages that i had already logged into an .xls but i lost the file last weekend :x I've got a few too many pending projects right now that don't allow me to put much time into the performance test.
but yea the info is free.. .do with it whatever you want!

cheers!

yeah - i'd like to see someone else make a spreadsheet out of this. i'd be curious to see what specific impact stuff like RAM, hd speed, etc has on similar systems.

i'll post results with my Indigo DJ once i've optimized the system. can't say i'm upset with the results - i think it was 24-25% on my old system. also had a vpn client running at the same time.
interesting - with my Indigo DJ installed, cpu usage peaked at 20%. 3 cheers for Wueschel!

Looks like Sonoma based laptops are performing ok, even with external soundcards.
How low can you set the latency before getting click's and pops?

it doesn't really make an impact on cpu%
ram/hd will make an impact when you start streaming SEVERAL tracks from disk, Load several tracks into Ram, and if you use several VSTi's/AU's at the same time.

but it really hasn't made a noticable impact on cpu performance with this test,
and thats why it was ommitted from the latest chart.

Well i'm happy.. i've gone from getting a constant crunching 105-120% on my dual 533 G4, overloading and distorting.. to a respectible 39-42% on my new 7447 gigadesigns 2.0Ghz (a Freescale 1.6 guaranteed at 2.0ghz).
