I'm trying so hard to remember the name of a gabber track right now. Only because it would prove you wrong (in one case ;-) ). It just a 4/4 kick, but the kick changes every 4 or 8 beats. It's amazing. Ding ding ding ding TONK TONK TONK TONK BAM BAM BAM BAM etc...

(oh [edit] misread your post. You obviously didn't say a track with just a kick would be horrible)

i find i use 808 drums a LOT in tech kinda tunes.
yeah these days I find I usually just use the Ableton 'drum machines' 808 or 909 kits in general and it's surprising how much you can do with them - even just with things like compression - playing with the attack and release, maybe transpose the sample to fit with the track, some EQ - maybe some reverb on some sounds, possibly gated - just simple things often provide a lot of mileage

yeah, the Ableton Drum machines are tasty and IMO highly tweakable. I've been really digging those kits.

the All The Breaks collection has also become a staple of mine.

or find some minimal artist you like and sample a bare drum it. when in doubt, STEAL. ;)

nah, bullshit. isn't the actual goal in minimal techno to sound like the other
476 releases this week ?!

c'mon, sample the current top 10 sales charts on a given online record store
and go along. Make sure to adopt the patent receipt of clonky shuffle grooves.
they just can't get enough of it......

[/sarcasm]
it's not called sarcasm it's called berlin minimal.

Micirotonic+effects
reaktor
Drumatic for drumkicks.
Any simple synth like operator with noise and sinewaves+ effects

then comes the aesthetic, make them shork, use bitcrushers, play with the decay, tweak it as much as you can.

Uhm.... MIDI Editor ?
Uhm..... Audio Delay ?
Uhm... PLAYING an instrument ???

? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?? ? ? ? ? ? ? ????

Gosh, why attempting to make music if this is really a question ?

okay, in case you really have no idea:

Sample a one bar loop from some M_urx release, paste it into the arranger and make sure that one bar in arranger is really one bar of your loop.
Create a MIDI track with a drum rack with some drum sounds and place midi notes in way that they are aligned with the sonic events in the audio track.

And, btw.: some people do spend some month (!!) on a single piece of music, and dedicate years of practice and learning. Just in case you think it all can be done with a snap of a finger.
