Solution for DJ Booths...
On a recent trip to IKEA -
i found a seat cushion ($2.99) made of dense foam, exactly 12" in diameter...
i thought to myself, "hey self! this would be perfect to use for setting the laptop on top of the turntable!"
so i bought it, used a slipmat to mark the center of the bottom
took an X-Acto and cut out an indention for the spindle...
Here are some pics...

Not true. The magnets (BIG ONES) are attached to the spinning platter. The electro Magnet is on the "motor" and spinns the platter by opposing the po;llarity of the platters permanent magnets...Spiralgroove wrote:i really dont think the magnets are strong enough to be a problem
and since theyre electro magnets then they arent magnetic unless the turntable is spinning.
no thanks, but I like your solution regardless.
I'm just incredidly paronoid (sp?)

yea, i know alot of guys who put their 12" PB's on top of the dust covers for direct drive TT's and they've had no issues there. and while that does elevate it more above the platter, i'd think this cushion would provide you with as much protection or more than a dust cover.
plus you get the whole lazy susan effect of having your laptop on a turntable. who needs a tablet PC with swivel screen then, hahahaha.
