Post by Angstrom » Sat Feb 07, 2009 6:32 pm

a selection of screens from the library update.
Corrupted download, or some other cause?

Hi Angstrom,

It looks more like a database problem. Did Live crash or did you have a second instance of Live open during the Installation?

What Live Packs had been installed in your Library prior to this installation?

The last message box says that the Live 8 Beta Library was only partially installed. Did you get any error messages or prompts to replace files during the installation?

I'd recommend to set the Live Library to an empty folder and see if the Live Pack Installation is then successful.

live did not crash and I did not have a second instance open

as listed in the Preferences -> Library

Analog
Basics
Drum Machines
EIC2
Electric
Live 7 lessons
Live 7.2 library
Sampler
Session Drums
The last message box says that the Live 8 Beta Library was only partially installed. Did you get any error messages or prompts to replace files during the installation?
no, I did not get the Keep/Replace dialog during this update

One thing I notice is that Tension is not listed there, and that when I search for Live packs it is marked as 'uninstalled'

I'll try a few things and report back.

I manually "searched for uninstalled Live packs" using the quite bad system for doing that.

It then found the packs and I used the bad system to install them - which worked OK

I tried that, and it helped me install the Beta library and lessons. However, the packs for Electric, Operator and Tension did not install. Same error message about a database problem as mentioned above.

Live did not crash, and I did not have other instances open.

From before I had the Live 7 Suite and EIC1 installed.

I installed Beta 8 and there were no errors, but there is obviously still a problem because I am missing some functionality.

Live's "search for un-installed Live Packs" feature tells me that all the packs are installed (well it doesn't actually TELL me that, because it is rubbish) but I can see no packs marked as 'uninstalled'

I am not inclined to take Daniels suggestion to install the beta library to a separate location than my real Live 8 Library .. because that is not a real-world solution. Removing all of my other Live packs such as Session Drums and EIC2 ... just to make the beta pack work right?

that's not a solution

So, tell me - how do I force a index rebuild.
I have an idea how I can do it, but I would hope Ableton have a method - as there is obviously a few others with this issue.

OK, I am commencing rebuilding my index manually - because i do actually know how to force this (with a trick).

But I think that there is certainly a bug here to be fixed.

... now I'm off to watch paint set while this library index updates.
Does this process still take an hour and a half?

wheee!

OK,
my library is not updating.

it gets to a certain point and just fails

I would greatly appreciate a fix for this

Just tried it again, oddly it got to 38% this time.

Which is odd, as I would expect the failure to occur at the same point each time.

Hi Angstrom,

could you send me your complete Log files (c:\documents and settings\<your account>\application settings\Ableton\Live 8.0b8\Preferences\Log.txt).

Could you also tell me what files are in c:\documents and settings\<user>\application settings\ableton\Live 8.0b8\Database\ and what their size is?

Thanks,
Gregor

I wonder if there is a problem with my computer username being in the format

C:\documents and settings\username.computername\
with a "."

does your databasing method have problems with unexpected "." in paths?

the clue being this log entry from beta 8

Code: Select all

9810 ms. Database: Open file: 'C:\Documents and Settings\ *username.COMPUTERNAME* \Application Data\Ableton\Live 8.0b8\Database\index.db'
9812 ms. Index: Failed [0x000c]: no such table: version
(*) is my edit, just to obfuscate my username and computername
