mac os x - help - ext. disk wont mount

Post by koneko » Thu Dec 18, 2008 9:13 pm

i have an external usb drive which i use to store samples on. i have backup for most of the stuff there but not for all of it

anyway... i had to unplug it because the system got stuck on it. the os gave me the generic "device removal" note.. needed to restart... tried to mount it again, and it wont show on the desktop

in disk utility the hard disk shows, but the 1 partition in it is dimmed down. i repaired it, it said "ok", but nothing ok. still wont mount.

so my question is, if anyone can recommend me of a good disk repair solution besides the os' disk utility

much appreciated!

shai

Do you have the cd's that came in the box of the computer? Have you tried the start up utility? Have you tried repairing the startup disk, from the startup utility?

Instructions are in your manual.

If that doesn't help, I hear disk gennie, (sp) is pretty good.

+1 for Disk Warrior. It's gotten me through external HD trouble 3 or 4 times.

Glory to Jobs in the highest, the Mac did not fail. It was the heathen USB drive. All is well.
