Morton Subotnick....the synth he used in Holy Mountain OST?

Post by cavern » Wed Oct 29, 2008 9:31 am

here's what i'm talking about: http://www.ccaavveerrnn.org/subotnick.mp3 ...it's the warbly high-pitched synth

I always assumed it's a synth he built himself....but i've heard it used by other artists...like this venezuelan guy Angel Rada who made an amazing album called upadesa back in the day but now makes bad techno (see myspace).

Subotnick is well known for using Buchla modular synths

Without breaking the bank you'll get close using some Plan B modular gear... take a look at Model 10, Model 13 and Model 15...

BTW - what makes you think it's Subotnick?

It's not listed on his biog and this page http://www.dinosaurgardens.com/archives/139 credits the soundtrack to Don Cherry and Archies keyboardist Ron Frangipane along with Jodorowsky

i'm not sure why i thought it was subotnick?? weird. i didn't question that at all.

i was just curious about the synth because i love the sound...but out of boredom ive tried to replicate it using Vsynth1 vst, which is a free. i started doing the bass parts and was like...f*** this....i'm not THAT bored.

here it is:
