Song peak volume scan feature

Post by muthafunka » Fri Aug 22, 2008 3:15 pm

Thinking recently that instead of using normalise or resorting to unnecessary limiting when rendering it'd be super-handy to have some means of quickly scanning a song and being given the peak value so you could bump up the master to maximise volume without clipping or fx. Would be mighty handy to save playing back through a song over and over trying to watch where it clipped. Maybe as a readout option it could tell you not only the max. level of the track but more usefully the max. level you could raise the master to without clipping. This might also help a little to tame our urge to just slam a comp and limiter on there too.

I'm more interested in a RMS indicator of the volume, near the peak indicator

Not raally, I don't mean in trems of djing, I mean for a near finished composition. Instead of listening/watching for peaks/clips all the way through it could give you a master or even per track readout out peaks or RME so you could simply adjust the fader/s by the relevant amount. Kind of smart meter quick-scan.
