Sorry to be harsh, but no sympathy, really. Think of the type of people who frequent clubs. That’s what backups and Kensington security slots are for. It’s a no-brainer.
How many more of these stories do we need to hear?

Man, this like you turn your around to turn up the amps volume and someone steals your efx pedals right from the stage.hambone1 wrote:Sorry to be harsh, but no sympathy, really. That's what backups and Kensington security slots are for.

This is why we need a big security crowd and fences in front of the stage.

And furthermore without him immediately noticing since most likely he'd be streaming stuff from it at the time ...Angstrom wrote:how the hell does someone steal a drive from right in front of you?
Ouch !
Of course no backups is fucking stupidity if the data is has value to you.
Personally I can't sleep well at night unless I know my backups are up to date.
I've come close to losing **everything** on numerous occasions through not having backups but fortunately one of my best buddies happens to be a data recovery expert who can talk to hard drive controller boards in machine code!
; )
Data theft is another matter of course ...

i've got sympathy for mr dear on this one...
i had someone steal a bag full of midi stuff from behind us in Croatia. It was one of those gigs where the VIP space is basically where you're playing so there were loads of munted lurkers asking us questions every two minutes while we're gigging. You never ever know what the security in a club is like and part of the fun of doing a live set is being a bit intimate with the crowd. We found the discarded bag lying in the carpark with nothing in it after the gig.
I have to say that i stopped using external drives for gigs when one died on me in Belgium and i had to recreate the set standing on stage on the internal drive (while my sidekick played)..
i think carrying a USB key with enough of a set to carry on in your pocket isn't a bad idea these days.. they're about £5 for 4 gb.
