Jan Jelinek
Jan Jelinek
Don't know how many of you guys appreciate Jan Jelinek, but he seems to be back with some new direction and some ideas to think about.
Jan Jelinek: Together and alone
"The tragedy in electronic music is that people think it’s still innovative,” laments loop-meister Jan Jelinek in his Berlin studio. “There are a lot of people who are listening to electronic music that still think it’s avant-garde. But the strongest parameter to measure electronic music was its cutting edge aspect, like in jazz it was the virtuosity aspect. When that gets lost, you don’t have that much context anymore"
But however, and not in contradiction with the linked article, some old stuff of
his (JJ or Farben) like "Silver Circle" is still one of my all time favourites.
Big respect for this guy...
Haven't heard yet the new stuff though.

Maybe I need to hear it agian but the most recent stuff by Jan Jelinak took a definite backseat to whjat he used to do...
Don't get me wrong, I love when guys that get lumped into the same traditional tech-house genre branch out and do something different (Brinkmann) but Jan's older stuff just sounded better to my ears.
I'm willing to revisit the last couple of releases though... maybe I missed something.

Isn't it another name for a condom?boraxx wrote:not to be an ass, but do you know what the word prolific means?landrvr1 wrote:When I become famous will I also feel the undying urge to come up with some really prolific bullshit quote like "The tragedy in electronic music is that people think it’s still innovative" ?
If so, shoot me now......

'prolific' works in this context as long as you apply it to 'bullshit' and not 'quote'.boraxx wrote:not to be an ass, but do you know what the word prolific means?landrvr1 wrote:When I become famous will I also feel the undying urge to come up with some really prolific bullshit quote like "The tragedy in electronic music is that people think it’s still innovative" ?

Jan Jelinek is top notch.
Saw him several times never disapointing. I'm following his output since the
beginning and probably got all his released stuff on good ol' vinyl.
"Loop finding jazz records" on ~scape is one of my fav's of his more straight
stuff. Exceptional musician and one with the more interesting approach on
"techno" in general. Can't deny that his music had a big impact on my works.
use his discogs discography to skip trough his works - it will be worth the time!
also search for the rare recordings of his performances.
def. essential stuff in advanced techno music.
