Can you crash live with pitch bends?

Post by WaveRider » Wed Oct 31, 2007 12:46 pm

Well, I am trying to record a 9 min track with lots of pitch bends and mod wheel messages, it stalls live before I reach 32 bars!!!!!

anyone can try this? I use a kontrol pad, and rub the surface.... live apparently fills up very fasts and freezes!!!!!

Any users with a padKontrol? can you try recording a midi track while constantly rubbing the pad? thanks to anyone who confirms this.

My roommate actually produces tracks with alot of pitch bend automation that he usually records live into the clips within the session view, then records them in to the arrangement. I am not sure that would be a better solution for you but he has had very little issues with it. It could be the instrument you are using.

Lots of simultaneous midi notes can cause live to choke, if you are bending a huge chord.

Wow this is exactly my problem too. I'm recording midi with a lot of pitchbending and Live becomes unresponsive only after some beats.

I'm using an USB midi keyboard btw.

Not happening here.
I'm using a Key61s from M-Audio, uses CoreMidi - No driver. USb 2.0.
Are any of you using a driver of some kind?
If so, check driver properties, some have a buffer check box sometimes.
MIDI is a serial protocol so when you pitch bend a 8 notes chord
MIDI transmits all 8 notes very close to each other one at a time.
Sometimes the MIDI implementation uses USB port as a MIDI 2 Serial device,
running the risk of a crowded BUS and so crashes.

m-audio 49e usb 2
xp sp2

record a midi part in arrangement window, play keys and use pitchwheel a lot = unresponsiveness / crash
