it's backlash against the kinds people who push this kind of agenda:

(meat eaters are the moral equal of slave owners)
(I decided there was no clever way I could respond to the second part without sounding like a misogynist or a homophobe)

they have a right to their opinion - while their intolerance and narrowmindednes deserves to be criticized just like any other bigot on a mission

r

bigot (noun)
a person who is utterly intolerant of any differing creed, belief, or opinion.

Hmm...so if I am intolerant of Nazis, am I am bigot? What about if I am intolerant of the KKK, am I a bigot? What if I am intolerant of Al-Queada, am I a bigot? You see where I'm going with this?

I think the key term in that definition is 'utterly intolerant'. I don't think that veggies and vegans are utterly intolerant. *Some* may be opinionate, self-righteous, and judgmental, but I wouldn't call them bigots. Well, maybe some are.

Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.

Yeah, I was kind of agreeing with you, but from that point of view, some of everybody is a bigot.

Using these logical fallacies to tar all vegetarians with the same brush is crazy.

Lets try these equivalent statements:
  • Some gay men go to nightclubs, anyone going to a nightclub is a gay man
  • Some brown people destroyed the twin towers, therefore all brown people are bad
  • Some priests had sex with boys, all priests are child molesters
  • Some vegetarians made some stupid t-shirts, therefore all vegetarians are stupid
see ... it makes no sense. You may be annoyed by these T-shirts, but they are produced by people who could easily be annoying you about Marxism, the sanctity of marriage, abortion, etc. The people who make and wear these t-shirts make them because they are annoying bastards , not because they are vegetarians

Drawing illogical and conclusions about vegetarians from the behaviour of a few is frankly bizare.

that wasn't my intention...

I was giving a direct answer to why a few feel so hostile to vegans/vegatarians.

The few people who broadbrush vegans/vegatarians do so because of the few vegans/vegatarians that militantly broadbrush meat eaters (although - I prefer your "annoying bastards" characterization).

I agree - it's crazy to lump everyone into the same group and your examples of every other kind of militant bigotry are spot on with what I saw was the root problem of the original story.

This couple was so militantly vegan that they allowed themselves to believe that even human breast milk was bad for their baby.

An evil person could see it as Darwinism in action, not me of course. I'm nice.

I'm not as nice. I'll give a Darwin award. These two ought not procreate further.
