Who is still on Live 5?

Post by difference » Fri Feb 23, 2007 9:08 am

I have Live 5.22 at the moment but it crashes on me far too often.

I don't really feel I need live 6 yet and besides, from what I read there are still issues with that.

If you're on Live 5, what release are you using? I don't think I had anywhere near as many crashes with earlier versions.

Interesting. Maybe I should go back to 5.2 instead of 5.22.

Are you saying Live never crashes on you?

I didn't realise there was a 5.2.2. Maybe I'll try it...

But I can't remember the last time Live crashed. Although I haven't been using it all that much recently. But I'm starting to again now (on my laptop, anyway). I can upset it if I do something silly - like unplug all my USB MIDI devices (plus my network, power and USB trackball) while Live is running. But it still doesn't crash; it just gets very slow to respond...

I disagree. I think you have just come to accept that from companies like Ableton and Steinberg.

Reason - now there's a finished product. No bugs. Reason 3 needed a couple of very minor updates but 2.5 never needed any bug fixes at all.

5.2 don't need any more complexity than that. Running stable on a powerbook 1.5/10.4....

Only jumping to 6 once I can afford a macbook mainly just for the overhead to run more effects...it's the only thing that I have a problem with...
macbook 2.16 ghz, live 6...studio with gear now gathering dust.

5.2 here. I recall reading a lot of complaints about crashes on 5.2.2 so I never installed that one.

The thing is, you're not speaking from experience.
You read there are still issues... I read about issues in reason too.

Live is stable for a lot of people. For some it isn't. Just like reason..

Starting to see the pattern?

Ableton is totally unlike any other company i've dealt with.
They're always fixing and improving things. And still take the time to explain features, limitations and solutions.

I guess your experience would be different.

Ad- no need for the multi cpu support in 6? Or are you just waiting for something else?
