This is a really cool program to monitor how hot your cpu is running on your macbook pro. Check it out here:

Well the word is that the new firmware helps reduce some of the heat issues. I can't confirm or deny this since I installed the firmware right when I got my mac so I have no basis for comparison. Mine is a later model anyway and I don't think I have the whine problem (haven't heard it yet). I know that that speedit kext program works though so I really suggest anyone who thinks they might have a heat issue to try it out so they confirm if their macbook is running temperatures aboves specifications. The company who is developing the program is working on a better version and is releasing updates daily and pretty soon they will have it so the program works side by side with a mac Widget so it will be even more user friendly when it is done. You can check the widget out here:

can't say i've had any trouble with my macbook overheating. yes, it's gets hot, all macs do, it gets a little hotter then teh 1.67ghz G4's did. it runs as fast as a 2ghz G5 with needs a liquid cooling system to keep from burning up. i think it's doing fine...

apple's specs and the thermal paste on the macbooks is exactly the same as it has been on every other aluminum portable apple has made in the last 3 years.
