well.. what's in a name?leisuremuffin wrote:yeah man.
great idea.
maybe change the headline to lfo generator though.
an envelope folower/generator would be an excelent plug as well.

I think 'envelope generator' is exactly the description for what it does; generating an (automated) envelope with a lfo....
'lfo generator' would only suggest it generates a lfo, but not what it affects or what it's purpose is..
maybe the confusion is that the word 'envelope' is used here for an automation curve and not for what people generally understand by envelope; the (semi) fixed ADSR envelope on a synth..
anyway, I hope Ableton would implement such a device..
lfo modulation is one of the most powerful tools in music making, if not THE most powerful tool.. (imagine a synth without lfo's? that would be pretty boring)
really great, never forgot this one, very useful, wish they would

well, i was just saying lfo generator based on your mock up.
If it had definable breakpoints and the ability to do a triggered one shot rather than simple waveforms i would believe the name envelope generator. But as far as i can tell that thing can best be described as an lfo generator. no?

I used lfo's in the mock up because generally lfo's are used to modulate signals and parameters..leisuremuffin wrote:well, i was just saying lfo generator based on your mock up.

Instead I could've used (looped) envelopes but that's not that common..
in the end a lfo IS an envelope, but with an endless cycle..
I think that your definition of an envelope is something like the ADSR feature on a instrument.. but if you modulatie the filter cutt-off on a synth with a lfo you can call that lfo an envelope as well.. only it's not that 'visual'..
but enough about that..
- no, it can not have (adjustable) breakpoints cause lfo's simply can't..(well; in fact they can, but thats another chapter)
then it should have looped envelopes (same as Operator)..
And a looped envelope is the same as a lfo, but now you can 'shape' the 'wave form' with breakpoints..
- yes, a one cycle trigger button would be a nice feature as well.. but how do you trigger it when used on a audio track?
- no, the wave forms are not simple cause that's why there are;
a mixer, PW, phase, period and level to create complex wave form output..
Now you only see a square and saw wave but it can have a zillion others..
And another plus for choosing a lfo instead of breakpoint envelopes is that the output can be so complex, you don't even consider trying to draw that with a 39-breakpointed-curved-evelope.. and if you want to do some quick adjustments? or live recording changes? just twist some knobs.. voila!
so; what I mean with this device is that it generates an envelope by letting the lfo output modulate other device's' parameters..
you can record this automation (read; envelope) and tweak this futher by hand through it's adjustable breakpoints..
in it's current state it's not that thought out yet but I hope the Abe's do..
I would do it for free, if they even consider implementing such a device..
it would really expand Live's possebilities..

is there some way to do this now? e.g., for those who have operator, sending midi from operator's LFOs to various parameters? it seems there has to be some work around, because we can already generate the info, but i'm not sure how you'd get it to a clip envelope for a specified parameter. perhaps a stupid question.
