this is a really easy question...
if you have enough money, spend it on the 3D... It really shouldn't be competing with the 800...
If you can't afford the 3D, then get the 800. The 800 is gonna have great sound quality (way better than the 600) all the effects you'll need and alot of controls for Ableton... What it seems to be missing is buttons though. So you will still need something to launch clips with the 800.

the xone 3D will retail for close to $3000 USD... question answered... it's too expensive to take out of the house much less let people float drinks over the top of it at a gig.....
Ecler makes a mixer that does what you want:

it's much more economically priced although they are a European company that we never see over here in the States... any of you Euro folks familiar with these?

iMac G5 2.0Ghz, Yamaha i88X, Logic Pro 7.1
I just called Allen & Heath and they said Xone 3D will be available at the stores in the USA, 30-45 days from today. I called few dealers and one dealer is taking pre-order at $2289.00(total price) shipped.
The Ecler Nuo4 is nothing compared to the Xone 3D imo. The fren has the Nuo4 and the build is ok but the knobs feel so cheap and plastic. I guess one could compare The Nuo4 to Xone 92 since both have midi capabilities but for sure the Xone 92 sound quality is lot better.

FYI, the NUO4 puts out 89 MIDI messages, whereas the XONE:3D is 105 (or 110?). The NUO4 is $750, the XONE:3D is $2700. You do the math
Still, there are many obvious andvantages to the 3D, so it all depends on what you need exactly. With the $2K you save getting the NUO4, you can get a BOATLOAD of other gear...
And ECLER sound quality is top notch in ALL their mixers, NUO4 included, and will give any (tabletop)A&H a serious run for the money
