Alienware Area-51m 766

Post by gregmcnichol » Sun Mar 19, 2006 11:40 pm

lI just purchased this laptop off ebay and was wondering if anyone has any experience with it and live? I've heard a few bar reviews about dead pixels and such but the auction says there are none of these. It has a p4 3.2ghz with 1gig of ram 512x2. I only paid $900.00 for it on ebay which looks to be a great deal others with same stats and same video card everything the same seem to go for 1200? Well any information from you ableton guys is appreciated!!

Haha...I have that laptop. Let's just say that I had to get 4 drivers (video, audio, touch pad, & wifi card) directly from the souce as Alienware just STOPPED supporting it AND I kept getting blue screens! I'll never buy another Alienware again. I posted threads on their forum & their admin DELETED THEM! Screw them! All that being said...it works quite well...now...now that I have the proper dirvers!

OK..to get the correct drivers:

Video: http://www.omegadrivers.net/
Wifi: http://www.phoenixnetworks.net/atheros/ ... 330150.zip
Audio: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/dla ... tware=True
but I suggest the ASIO4ALL drivers for Live at http://www.asio4all.com/

No problem. No blue scrrens in the past year. With LIVE...no issues except for reaching the max processing & Live locking up...but you have to run 12+ tracks or really CPU hungry VSTs to get that. I found that my new Dual CPU desktop has NEVER had that issue. I think it has to deal the two seperat threads. The stop button is linked to the graphics trhead. Since that laptop is a single proc laptop...the problem presents itself moreso.

problem with Alienware Area-51m 766 15.4" fx go5700

Post by trytom » Tue Apr 18, 2006 7:36 pm

Hello
I've bought one too from ebay, it has a p4 3ghz with 512mb ram, and geForce fx go5700, but I don't have CD with drivers, and I have problems with installing graphic card. When I'm trying to install some other drivers for fx go5700, from nvidia site or www.omegadrivers.net, and when I'm restarting system after windows XP loading picture my screen is turning all black, and there is no reply from system. Then I must turn it off and turn it on again and load it in VGA to remove this driver. Maybe it's something with this wide-screen, but I have no more ideas what to do with it. Can anybody Help me somehow with it??

thanks and regards
