I know the pinky people have always said their system tracks more naturally than timecode records for random access, backwards playback etc.

From what I saw on the forum, you load up a file into the Pinky Pluggo VST or AU, record vinyl position info for it (can you then trigger multiple files from different regions of the record?), then you get yr choice of vinyl-style nudging to beamatch song files, scratching, or whatever.

I was just at the Ms Pinky site, this is what I found...

Ms Pinky is proud to announce "Pinky Pluggo", the (beta) release of her amazing new VST-compatible plugin for WinXP and OSX!

This handy plugin is based on the popular Pluggo technology from cycling74.com, and enables convenient vinyl-controlled audio file scratching and playback within any VST-compatible host session running under WinXP or OSX.
If you're running OSX, you can also create an Audio Unit version of Ms Pinky's Plugin using the Pluggo Audio Unit scanner (included in the download of Pluggo).

"Pinky Pluggo" is available as a free download for members of Ms Pinky's Fan Club.

Requires Pluggo version 3.5.3 or later. Not to worry, you don't have to purchase Pluggo in order to use Ms Pinky's Plugin. You simply have to install the free runtime version of Pluggo which you can get from cycling74.com.

I have been looking at Ms Pinky for a while and am really interested. I don't know anyone that uses it either and would love to hear how both the video and the binky toy work for them. It seems so simple and efficient. I like the idea of not needing any extra outboard gear except maybe the preamps. Replacement records seem reasonably priced too. anyway testimonials would be greatly appreciated.

bumping this because i too am interested in the ms pinky vst use in live. i have been considering serato scratch, but this seems like a much more economical and potentially better option since i already have live.

yes, I'm very interested as well... any user reports? How easy/hard is it to combine wavs/mp3 mixed using the vinyl with clips within a live set.

i got this this week - i use the vst in ableton to dj (scratch) with mp3s along side my normal ableton dj template. it works well, you can chain fx to it as normal but with the audio through feature on pinky you can play your vinyl into ableton and use l5 as an fx box too!!

i use the esi u46dj usb soundcard and have the decks go directly into that, and use 4 outs to a dj mixer.

all im using pinky for is to control mp3s, im no tech genius and dont know how youd hack the max code.

if you can beatmatch like a normal dj then its fine, i just use my normal way of djing. in live i tap the bpm in roughly to what ever vinyl/pinky track im playing and then click on bpm box and using up/down arrows or shift and arrows for .1 adjusts i beatmatch that way basically

yes - £200 got me the new soundcard and pinky set up (4 vinyls too so you have a spare set!!)

serato is £420 ish and you cant use the box for anything else, no vst effects.

but, the plug ins wave display doesnt work yet (or at least for me) but you have a progress bar to tell when the end of the mp3 is coming. it has no crate/library and no drag n drop of files either, but i can get over that.

ill now sell my echo indigo dj pcmcia card to ofset the cost of adding this to my set up - but digi scratching on the cheap is cool.

pinky vinyls also work well with the www.djdecks.be program - $30!! and has vst support, i used the demo and its fine.

re video - as my laptops gfx card cant/wont support opengl / has no driver i cant use the video side of things, which is a pain but not end of the world, ill eventually test it on my desktop maybe

i have heard of some issues with the esi u46dj. some complaints with the drivers and having no gain control on one set of outputs...

any issues you are having?

yes its true the second input has no gain control - its set to 0db, i have them both at 0db anyway and its been fine for me - i have fairly new ortofon concode dj s stylus, and the pinky plug in picks it up - very strong signal, same as in djdecks too.

i do know that mac users cant use the control panel of the u46dj, youd need a windows machine to set the mixer to what you want.

driver wise - ive only had it running a few days but driver installation was painless and i was up n running in under 5 mins, so far so good.

yeah i think people's main issue has been the gain issue, couples with the fact that ESI refuses to fix it. that's just lame. keep me informed on how things go with that card, cuz for me, it's still the most cost effective card to get for the pinky pluggo.

the real power of this isnt the abilitiy to scratch wavs/mp3s , its the advanced stuff you can do with max coding..

imagine scratching parameters from vsts, imagine scratching as many parameters as you want at once, imagine being able to switch whatever the record controls with a button press... use the record to control anything you want

try controlling a normal wav file, and also controlling the frequency and pitch of a granular delay applied to that wave file, so you scratch both at the same time

its insane
