Hi !
I am controlling the complete light-show of my
live-set via midi CC in Live. When I select a
controller in the pulldown-menu of the clip it
is all named like "7 - volume" or just "28 - (controller)".
Is there any way to change this and give the controllers
names like "tilt" or "dim" or anything ?
Renaming CC-Controllers in pull-down-menu ?
Programming lights in Ableton has sounded like a real elaborate nightmare to me. This doesn't answer your question but you might want to check out this thread:

Sounds promising.

Re: Renaming CC-Controllers in pull-down-menu ?
I'm at Live11 and I'm seeking how to do this. By this I mean that I have a synth with specific CCs. I need to be able to make those CC names conform to the general midi format. i.e. cutoff, attack, decay, release, resonance, mod, reverb send, delay send, etc.
and i can't be guessing them or "remembering" them. i need to see them in the list.
is this possible in Live11?

Re: Renaming CC-Controllers in pull-down-menu ?
It is possible with M4L devices that send CC, then you draw automation envelopes for the device's named knobs/sliders, instead of MIDI CC envelopes.
I tried to find a ready-made M4L device but couldn't find any.
I think it may require renaming the knobs' name in the Inspector in Max Editor.
So it is possible to rename, but not in a pull-down menu (AFAIK).
Now I get why there are so many synth-specific devices in maxforlive.com.
If you are going to spend time renaming 40+ MIDI CC for a synth, may as well color them and put them visually in a position that resembles the synth too.
EDIT: BTW, depending on synth or hardware you want to automate, it may have a device for it already in maxforlive.com.
