Sound issues when using a second display

Post by s.pauly » Fri Sep 28, 2018 12:30 pm

Hi there,
four weeks ago, my computer started having sound issues when using Live 10.0.3. When the CPU load exceeds ca. 40 %, I hear short dropouts and crackles. I learned that the problems only occur when I am using my second display (LG) via HDMI. Working on the second screen (e.g. scrolling a browser window) will increase the problem. I updated all drivers but I didn't manage to find a solution. This is not an Live 10 related problem. I checked it with Reaper 5 as well and I had the same issues. When I plug out my second screen, I can use my DAWs without any trouble.

A test with Latency Monitor shows a peak on process latency (534,9 µs) once I move my mouse cursor on a window on my second screen.

I a using my system for months now. I never had problems like that.

Could somebody help me out?

Thanks a lot...

If you're having the issue with other programs too, then you should find which change/update on your computer caused this.

Windows -> System -> Power & Sleep -> Additional Power Settings -> High Performance

Switch back to balanced when you're done with your sesh.

Edit: Get Power Plan Switcher from the Windows store, it adds a power plan icon in the taskbar making it easier to switch.

Hi there...
...and thank your for your support.

The power settings are already switched to high performance (although the balanced mode never caused any dropouts). So I can rule out the power management as the root of all evil.

I didn't had any hardware or driver changes in my system. Therefore, I suspect one of the latest Win10 updates being the origin of my problems. But this is just guesswork...

Have a nice weekend...

Cheers from Berlin
