create a file "Options.txt" in Library/Preferences/Ableton/Live4
write the line:
-MIDINoteFeedback
in it. If a session clip has been MIDI learned it will put out a note event when triggered, and a note event with velocity 1 per loop count and the note off on stop.
Thats all.

Options.txt file - anyone been "modding"?

It's more kind of a "trigger clip, triggers video" sort of thing.jeskola wrote:scuse me for being stupid - but what does this actually do - and how would it benefit me playing live or producing..?mcconaghy wrote:Bobby henke dropped this little gem in the Richie Hawtin thread:

You set it up to send note messages to a vj app for example.
Or let a clip trigger other things like lights, LED's,...
I'm already working on it.forge wrote:hmmm this sounds like a job for....WikiTheAnimal wrote:I wish I could RTFM to find all this stuff well documented ...
who can be bothered typing in a Options.txt section??
Sqook?! you seem to know what you're doing...
This is some seriously cool stuff. I think I actually LIKE the fact that it's not written down anywhere

I'm interested to see whats in the L6 options.
I bet Bobby boy has a few options in L6 just for his new controller beast the "Henkinator" or whatever it's called.
BTW: Alex (I think) has said before on the forum not to randomly go changing stuff in there - it could make your sytem unstable. The midi feedback one is fine though.
So, perhaps a bit of Abe input on any other juicy options might be useful.

I'm going to go back to this a bit later tonight and investigate some of these options a bit more closely.

The MIDI feeback option is not necessary anymore, since Live 5 this is enabled anyway. The options.txt stuff is a bit tricky. Things might change here from verision to version... so you can never be sure it does what you think it will do.
We implemented this hidden feature to allow modifications of the software which are only usewful for a very smal user group with a very specific setup and for us to have an easy way to test some details. Things we do not want to put in prefs like:
enforce compatibility to audio driver X while running under os Y if soundcard Z used port A....
any feature which might be useful for more then ten customers at some point ends up in "public" and not inside the options.txt

That's not a problem if you change the docs, too. You probably have some internal docs anyway, so why not simply make them avaiable? Like in the FAQ, only more complete.Robert Henke wrote:The MIDI feeback option is not necessary anymore, since Live 5 this is enabled anyway. The options.txt stuff is a bit tricky. you still have to create the file yourself. It's not there by default.
remember to follow the instructions to the letter, including capitalisation of the O

BTW current version is 9.6.2, which is 0.1.2 better than v9.5
