Whoa... that Izotope interface brought back some crazy memories of college physics...

I want it. Curious about Forges suggestion too...

my usage of drums is zero .. therefore all conventional compressors are gonna be considered / discarded.

trying in finding the best compression algorithm for low-fi drones / airwaves clicks is not that easy, believe me.
any compressor that uses [root mean square] RMS should be adequate for your particular musical style which compressor 2 is capable of.

Well you can't go wrong with FREE, right?

Check out the Free "Yohng's W1 Limiter", its a clone of the Waves L1 from yesteryear. and a pretty damn good one at that. PC/Mac VST
http://yohng.com/w1limit.html

Need a little extra stank on it? Put the Live Saturator before the W1 to drive its peaks a little harder before you reduce them.
This is very interesting. Trying it out now.

Thanks Adam

No problem,
and one of the best things about W1, is its CPU Lite (only adds about 2% on my G4 1.5ghz).

These days, I use WaveArts FinalPlug which is similar, but adds an excellent truncater and ditherer that allows me to record at 44.1khz in realtime but still get as much out of 44.1khz as i can. (i used to work at 96k and then resample/truncate in post, but the cpu load at 96khz was ridiculous)

but W1 held me over for several months between no longer owning Waves and not yet finding the Wave Arts plugs. And if i wasn't such a stickler about realtime truncation, i'd probably still be using it.

Another freebie to try out if you haven't already:

http://www.kjaerhusaudio.com/classic-master-limiter.php

Does the job here.

As Adam mentioned though, if you have the budget for it, Wave Arts Final Plug is a good one, too - up there with Waves in my opinion. Availble with 50% discount for Students and Teachers, too

I went with the Yohng's W1 Limiter and the BBE sonic maximizer, then after I render I bounce down with T-Racks. Sounds great!! :) At first my levels were TOO loud, even though very clear. I had to reduce the levels a bit.

heres my 2 cents:

Buzz Maxi 3

http://www.x-buz.com/BuzMaxi3.html

incredibly transparent maximiser. also, it's free...
if your looking for simply extra volume, this puppy could be the ticket. dunno how it compares to the waves stuff, but for the price it's probably worth investigation. good luck with it, it's a pretty wide open are your asking about!

Buz Maxi is excellent. I bet its as trasparent as the Waves limiter, maybe more. TLS Limiter is also good, not as transparent as Buz, but it sounds slightly warmer.

I've got Ozone and like it, but these days I'm turning more to:

Neodynium
Finis
Firium

All from Elemental Audio.
