second story shows a granular type thing about 3:30 in this video. i have yet to recreate the effect on a sample w/o repitching.

If it's repitching, you're just making the loop length too short. To adjust it without repitching, assign the length to a macro knob, enter map mode, and set the minimum value to be the value at which repitching begins.
