keyup on m4l?

how can i take a bang when any (laptop)key released without using keyup ???
(i have not find a way to make the keyup object work inside m4l
except if i select the device by hand....)
did i miss something?

(i am currently running windows 7)

i will be grateful for any advice new direction!

i highly suspect that key and keyup only work when max is on the focus.

I suspect some of the java mechanisms have lower-level access to key data than key and keyup - I think it's worth investigating in that direction.
