Ableton on a hand held
Well would it be possible for Windows CE or for an apple handheld down the pike? That would be so awesome, even if it had limited features.

while we're dreaming ...
I'd prefer a custom laptop. no qwerty keyboard. instead a perfect ableton controller surface with knobs, buttons, faders, joystick (embedded by mr faderfox) perhaps. built-in asio 2, 4 audio in/out & midi ports. 100GB 7200rpm HD. 4GB ram. touch screen. midi piano keyboard along the front edge.
Looking something like Devine Machines 3D dream box
While a PDA is too small and weak for any decent version of Live, perhaps a PDA wireless midi control surface could do the trick. (Terminal Services?)[/img]

bleurg .. I hate computer interfaces
I hate those damn meeces to peices!
I've always been a fan of Haptics
humans (and convincing androids like me) work well with physical feedback to playing, I want a 10x10x 5 foot active haptic area that is linked to direct laser 3d eye display.
Imagine the big manly muscles of the geek fraternity if you had to heft your basslines around and squeeze them into shape. pokey pokey poke on the invisible hovering rubber ball of the acid lead - line.
unfortunatley all that's on the market is this.

He he...i'd like something like a hardware sampler that works as well and as customizeably as ableton. Maybe a multichannel mixer into which you can put flash ram cards or the little business-card-size mini-cds into each channel and do exactly what ableton can, but with a hardware device...you could even put VST programs on said media and have return channels send audio through them.
Sounds like an interesting embeded linux project to me...
Of course, i'd also like a turntable with an LCD and plug for a hard drive so you can have SSL/FS2/etc. in an actual device instad of having to use a computer.

If only you, me and DEAD people could read hex, would we need this forum?
