get a large portion of whiny ass posters to stfu.

worked with the Live 7 64 bit summing engine. "Sonar has it, why doesn't Live?"
I 100% agree that the 64 bit summing audio engine was to get people to shut up. I distinctly remember you saying Live 7 sounded better by the way!

But I think that Live taking advantage of 64 bit memory addressing is a proper feature that is overdue and needed with today's computers, operating systems and virtual instruments. Big Time.

fuck you I did. :x I was the one posting with Henke about how bullshit a feature it was and the gains were somewhere down below the -80dB level. -82db comes to mind.

64 bit would make Live run better, I was mostly joking.

and Chuck Norris is a tool that thinks religion should be taught in schools. oh wait, not religion, just his own brand.

No.

why would i want to do that? having all those softsyths open at once will bring my system to a crawl. duh.

how many hands do you need to run all those synths in real time?

When you hit the memory limit of the OS, everything turns to shit and crashes start to happen.

64 bit OSes have a much higher memory limit, it varies depending on what platform you are one, but "much higher" covers the basics. This means you can safely use a giant orchestra sample library with 100 loopers and a bank of IR reverbs and be more sure that you won't hit the dreaded "out of memory" warning.
100 loopers?
my gods the crashes would be epic beyond human comprehension.

As a software company it would keep them from going extinct. Almost all current processors in the PC market are 64 bit, therefore driving 64bit OSes to market. So running 32bit apps in a 64bit environment requires an emulator. This adds an additional layer for potential problems and as with all things of this nature they will be phased out.
Ableton’s engineers are hard
at work developing code that will allow our software to predict the future, but we don’t
anticipate having this available until at least the next major release.

ok. so what is all the doubt that they will eventually make a 64 bit version for?

lack of an IOU?

if someone of you still believes Live has 64-bit summing,

1. pick a free bitmeter plugin from Stillwell called Bitter

2. create a few tracks, some audio, some vsti, set the volume faders to anything but 0db, insert the Bitter to master track,
hit play, notice what the bitmeter is saying: it will allways show about 32 used bits walking around in 64-bit range, depending on the overall volume.

3. next, do the same thing in Studio One set to 64-bit precision in options. here you get the full 64 bit range used.

so, the bottom line is: Live does not have a true 64-bit engine.

it's like showing a 800x600 picture on a 1600x1200 display. oh yes, you can drag the picture around. but if you imagine audio channels as image layers, you can only drag them together at once.

Seems like the main practical benefit will be the ability to address more RAM.

64 bit allows the user to fully integrate the current Live Set with: Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Skype, SoundCloud, Bandcamp, Spotify, Myspace, Pandora, Foursquare, Flickr, Loopt, Linkedin, StumbleUpon, Groupon, couchsurfing.org, and the Ikea Store Locator.

64 bit Social Networking is a break through in DAW technology. Additional features include: send and receive status updates, push notifications, pokes, likes, tweets, text messages, emails, phone calls, carrier pigeons, smoke signals, and distress calls. Upload Song and Share Live Set will be added at some point in the future. Unprecedented in the digital audio realm, 64 bit Social Networking's dynamic level of integration makes it possible to let the world know, instantly, if the user is a) still agonizing over that kick drum, or b) procrastinating on the Ableton Forum.
