Yeah, it didn't do much for me either

I've heard about it everywhere and everybody seems to like it, but I finished it and was left with a resounding 'meh'.

Well produced though

interesting project, hokey outcome. you could hear what classic rock tracks they were mimicking to take to their next level, creative album in that sense. most of their melodies are poorly done. production is good for what they do, overcompressed, loud, in your face. New Lands was probably my favorite track, dunno if I'd listen to it again. WAAAY better than the new Beastie Boys album. ;)

Listening to it now. I don't dislike it, but I agree that the melodies are average or worse, and the whole thing sounds kind of hollow.

Dance music through the filter of prog rock is an interesting conceit, I think Bullion and Paul White have taken it in a more interesting direction (although their appeal is to an entirely different listener, I suppose).

I couldn't even sit through the entire new DJ Shadow album but I haven't liked anything he's done since Entroducing. maybe I need to give it another try. (YAY Rhapsody!)

new albums for 2011 I'm liking
Cars - Move Like This (highly surprising)
Death Cab For Cutie - Codes and Keys (a departure from their usual, took me a while to warm up to it)
Foster The People* - Torches (quirky fun)
Janes Addiction - The Great Escape Artist (not their best but it's solid, they lost their edge a bit in favor of lush landscapes.)

not one bad song on any of those albums.

Cross — Electro Metal
Audio Video Disco — Prog House
next up — Minimal Psych? Folk Step?

(I liked "Helix" quite a lot, although I liked "New Lands" better when it was every song by The Who)

Good stuff...

I am checking out the new Pusicifer at the moment... well I guess I will get back to it after I finish watching this guy dance.
Ableton’s engineers are hard
at work developing code that will allow our software to predict the future, but we don’t
anticipate having this available until at least the next major release.

surprisingly bland, which is a bit of a shock after their debut's raw in-your-face simplicity and edge....really can't seem to digest this thing, and really don't feel compelled to even try to. boo.

are you kidding about the justice album being better than what the beasties just put out, I wasn't even going to listen to the justice album but I sure am now. 8O I thought that beastie album was pretty good.

didn't even know dj shadow had a new one out, I clearly don't know where I am.

I wanted to like the new Beastie Boys album, I really did, I listened to it when I didn't want to and I couldn't sit through it again. their last good album was Ill Communication, half of Hello Nasty was good the rest suck hard.

Tom Waits just put out another one, it's not on Rhapsody though. I'm a sucker for his sound.
forgot a few
The Strokes - Angles - meh, love their other albums, this one feels like them stretching out a bit, an album for them, not for the fans. some good tracks on it.
Foo Fighters - Wasting Light - more bland rock from the Foos.

good list of 2011 albums
