Why only two remote controllers?

Post by willum » Thu May 05, 2005 9:11 pm

Say you have more than two remote control devices. What then? How does Live recognize controllers MIDI-wise? The manual says Live merges the incoming signals. I'm assuming you can keep your two remotes from stepping on one another by using MIDI channel assigments.

I have an Oxygen8, a UC33e, and an FCB1010. Because the UC has two USB MIDI outs, I was going to run the FCB1010 into the UC midi in. But then my remote control slots are taken by the UC 1 and 2 outputs, and now I can no longer use the Oxygen8 as a remote controller. Or can I just send MIDI from the Oxygen8?

I know there are people who use even more controllers than that. How on earth do you get it all to work together?

Can someone help me to understand how this works, or point me to a thread?

Thanks!

Dammit, that's too much work! Actually you're right, that seems the most logical course of action.

Don't underestimate the value of your computer keyboard as a controller. Both lowercase and caps work separately. Over 50 switches for free! I know they're not knobs or sliders, but very useful nevertheless for launching clips & scenes, toggling EQ kill switches, etc.

I'm using an M-Audio Ozonic and Kenton Control Freak Studio together, which works fine. I guess that's because one is Firewire and the other MIDI. The MIDI Merge things sounds cool, too. Think I've got one of those little merge boxes laying around the studio somewhere gathering dust!

MIDIOX does it too.... copies the input onto yokes.

MIDIOX can do that? How? Is it covered in their documentation?

Live 5 will give you an unlimited number of midi devices for remote, sync, midi sequencing.

i still think it's a bit backward that only 2 remote controls are supported within Live...

edit: just missed your reply (above)
