Understand Midi Chord & Scale to SOUND PROFESSIONAL

Post by tripandball » Fri Mar 19, 2010 1:47 am

Understanding Midi chord & scale can take an uneducated musician, and turn them into a pro in seconds. By understanding how to use these amazing tools, you can jam away on your controller, and sound like a jazz pro in seconds. I wrote a little blog about it, enjoy!

I'm enjoying your blogs, keep them up.

What comes first, the chord or the scale??? & does it make a difference?

Your post suggest's that you place a chord device and then a scale.

Knowing very little about music theory, however understanding Live's effects quite well, I have been placing a scale device before the chord effect. Why? I guess I thought this is how it would be done as you will play a note in a certain key and then the chord will then play...

Do these produce different results?

ps. I have noticed that when changing the base note of the scale effect, a different tone is produced. This contradicts a what is suggested in the blog.

It makes a difference, and you will get different results. Anyway, if you want your chords to be composed out of only one scale then you obviously will put the scale behind the chord.

That was a nice simple explanation.

BTW: the 13th row gets used when you change the Base to C#, D# etc.
