Live 4, M-Audio firewire 410, and a roland midi guitar picku

Post by formicah » Thu Mar 24, 2005 8:02 am

The info on the roland site doesn't really explain their product, so i thought i'd ask around here..

Will i be able to use that midi guitar pickup just like a keyboard midi controller for Live and all the VST's?

and on a side note, Roland makes seperate models for guitar and bass... is there really a difference? or can i buy one and use it for both applications? and if not, does a company make a midi guitar/bass pickup hybrid?

thanks

You'll need the bass model for use on a bass, since the guitar model can't cope with strings that thick and introduces tracking delays.

You need a guitar-to-MIDI interface, since the pickup doesn't privide that. Roland's GI-20 is cool for that, it's got the 13-pin input for the pickup, and MIDI outs. Once you have that you can use it like any keyboard MIDI controller.

The 410 has problems in that area also...

Might want to have a look at this too. (I've always wanted one.)
