How to control VST paramters ? maximum ? pitch values vs % ?

Post by Tweaking Knobs » Sat Nov 28, 2009 2:10 pm

Hi,

how can i control the vst values of vsts inlive ?

When you "configure" a parameter to be automatable , do you have to set a maximum ?

if i want to automate the pitch, in semitones of course, how do i deal witht the percent of the automated parameters ?

why when i click on an configured parameter with automation , this jumps to some random number ?

heres a video explaining my problem.

thanx !!!

The behaviour you encounter comes from the fact that
you work in session, and with clip automation.
Clip automation is relative to the "physical" knob position.
In arrangement (track) automation you will see the "real" value/units of the physical knob.

In this special case of detune the clip automation would make
more sense if it had 0% in the middle and go up and down 50%,
as it is with some of Live's internal parameters.

To get the correct value you need to make some math's
on how much % 1 semitone is and adjust that exact value.
The 12 semitones must be 100%, the 0 semitones must be <100%.
If the 0 semitones is already 100%, the 12 semi can't be >100%,
because 100% is the maximum.

Easier would be to set up 2 tracks, each one with 1 Zebra on the same preset,
1 set to 0 semi and one set to 12 semitones and let clip automation at 100% for both clips.

Hope this helps you out
