No MIDI transpose +12 / -12 function?

Post by NativeOps » Wed Sep 24, 2008 12:04 am

Hey all, i'm still i new user to Ableton 7. Haven't had a lot of time with it yet, so I was shocked to find out there is no transpose midi function in the clip editor. Some times after dropping some notes, I might need to transpose the notes up or down an octave(12 semitones).
I used to use Cubase, and have gotten used to this feature. Am I missing something, or is this just a feature that Ableton hasn't included yet? I know there is a MIDI transposing plugin I can load on the midi track, but it kinda defeats the purpose. I guess I can just get used to loading one every time i load a midi track. But as of now, I feel ridiculous every time I transpose some MIDI up and octave, I have to tap the arrow key 12 times, and hear all the notes play out of key for a bar or 2 while the track is playing. If not, I guess I'll have to build custom tracks with the "midi transpose" tool already on them.

Unless of course there's a hidden transpose function I'm unaware of..
that would be great.

NativeOps - i know what you're looking for. i had used it a lot too in Reason, and after 3 years with live, i still miss it. and the + 12 / - 12 midi plug is not quite a workaround for it. there should be an individual/group value change function for midi notes that does that!

ok buddy, look here. i know the mouse works, but it's tedious, and pretty inaccurate. especially when your trying to MAKE MUSIC, NOT VIDEO GAMES.
FYI, if your using a mouse to make music, then I'm sure it's real lame. I'm a musician, I play an array of instruments, and mousing around all the time seriously gets in the way of the music production process. Go back to your loops.

You don't think before you type do you?

pressing up/down 12 times is a hassle. plus, you have to mute the track before you start tapping away and counting, then un-mute the track, and hope you counted right or double checked the piano scroll.

Can't we be nicer to each other, for fuck's sake? He said he's new to it; there's no need to be smart asses. And the new guy should probably not be so defensive and humorless if he wants people to bother replying in the thread.

The world sucks enough with all the death and destruction and misery going on, so why add to it by being needlessly mean?

page up / page down - keys would be nice for transposing 12 semitones.
